Above is the movie poster for “SpongeBob: Sponge Out of Water.” It was released into theaters on Feb. 6.

SpongeBob is now the enemy. Or that’s what all of the fish in Bikini Bottom think. The secret formula for the famous Krabby Patties under the sea has been stolen, and it appears that SpongeBob is in cahoots with Plankton.

Ten years ago, the first SpongeBob movie came out, and now Spongebob is back to make an even bigger splash in theaters. Based on the original Nickelodeon television series that started in 1999, “The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water” brings you back to your childhood.

The producers of the first few seasons of the SpongeBob series came back to work on this movie and made it surprisingly entertaining and funny. It’s worth watching, though maybe not until it premieres on television or is on DVD.

SpongeBob SquarePants makes Krabby Patties under the sea. Plankton, who runs the vacant Chum Bucket across from the Krusty Krab, schemes, like he usually does, to steal the secret formula for the Krabby Patties.

What’s interesting about the plot is that the story starts off like the shows usually does but then twists. Plankton is about to steal the formula when the formula disappears out of his hands. SpongeBob and Plankton then have to solve what happened to the formula while the fish in Bikini Bottom riot.

The film merges animation and the real world in an action-packed adventure. The trailers and posters for the movie made it seem like it would be mostly out of the water, but that is only in the last few moments of the movie. Even though it was good to see SpongeBob under the sea, the out-of-water scenes were impressive. The movie could entertain almost anyone who is willing to appreciate wittiness.

The classic and enjoyable SpongeBob is brought out with more corny jokes and randomness in this movie. I’ll give this movie 7 out of 10 stars for its comedic elements and playful nonsense.
