And the winner is Taylor Swift! As she walks up on stage with a big, bright smile, grabs the mic and is seconds away from her acceptance speech, she hears this; “Yo, Taylor your video was great and all, but Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time!” Yes, indeed Kanye West did need to get his two cents in at the VMA’s on Sunday September 13.
That wasn’t all that happened.
Russell Brand hosted the VMA’s this year. Again. Something about his poorly thought out jokes or harassment of the presidents had me doubting his ability to effectively host the event at all. However, this year, he wasn’t as bad as the last.
The jokes were more complimentary than disrespectful, although Lady Gaga seemed to pop up in his comments way too much for my taste. Brand actually complimented President Obama and avoided harassing the Jonas Brothers. So he redeemed himself, and I would give him a C for effort.
The biggest drama of the night has become an Internet sensation – Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech for Best New Female Artist video. Yay! Congrats Taylor. You totally deserve it! Kanye West obviously didn’t agree with this choice, but instead of keeping it too himself like a normal person, he had to broadcast it live.
On the VMA’s. DURING Taylor’s acceptance speech.
But honestly, what kind of VMA would it have been if Kanye didn’t make a complete fool of himself? I give Taylor an A for having the class to stand off to the side and Kanye an F for being himself.
Later, Lady Gaga stole the show. Or more to the point, her outfits. She went to the VMA’s with a Kermit the Frog puppet. She changed her outfit three times and succeeded in looking like a Pokémon, a giant sock, and an Eskimo.
Props to her, because I don’t think anyone else could pull that off. Nice job on her performance too; I’ve never seen anyone die hanging by their wrists. I will say that was quite entertaining. I give Lady Gaga a B for always keeping me guessing.
And finally, Pink. She entered the stage wearing a sort of jump suit that only covered half of her chest. On the other half she wore a star, placed appropriately. But her outfit was to be expected. What I was personally amazed at was the way she performed. She did acrobatics while singing, which was really cool to watch, and her vocals were all in tune. Well as much as they could be. She shall receive a B for being sort of odd but creative.
But hey, don’t let my opinions judge the VMA’s for you because “Im’a let you finish.”
