The apocalyptic movie “2012” can be summed up in one word: epic.
The movie blames solar flare bombardment for the end of the world on December 12, 2012. The flares cause the Earth’s crust to heat up, which then causes crustal displacement, and ultimately, the destruction of the planet.
This is just the beginning.
The end of the world starts with massive earthquakes in California. After the earthquakes, there are violent tsunamis along every coastline. California eventually ends up on the floor of the Pacific Ocean, and the destruction moves east.
The scientists and world leaders attempt to make it to the Himalayas, where massive ships/submarines are stationed that will be able to keep its inhabitants safe until the waters have calmed – much like Noah’s ark.
John Cusack (Jackson Curtis) and Amanda Peet (Kate Curtis) did a fantastic job playing their roles of an ex-husband and wife team working together to survive the end of the world.
The movie also had stunning graphics and breathtaking views of the natural disasters, especially the volcanic eruptions, massive earthquakes, and enormous tsunami waves. These made the movie seem almost too realistic.
This movie gets a B+ because of the strength of Cusack and Peet, as well as the graphics.
