Well, the wait is over. The 52nd annual Grammy Awards aired on Sunday, January 31. “The Patriot” gives commentary on who the winners were, who the winners were supposed to be, and why.
Record of the Year
Winner: Use Somebody – Kings of Leon
My Winner: Use Somebody – Kings of Leon
Kings of Leon deserved to get this award because, unlike most of the other artists in this category, excluding Taylor Swift, their music actually means something and has more than just a good beat. Way to go, Kings of Leon. You deserved it!
Album of the Year
Winner: Fearless – Taylor Swift
My winner : Fearless – Taylor Swift
Thankfully, Kanye was not there to ruin Swift’s moment as she received the Grammy for Album of the Year over Beyonce. Swift completely deserves it. While Beyonce’s album “I Am… Sasha Fierce” had a couple of good songs here and there, Swift’s album was more consistent.
Song of the Year
Winner: Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It) – Beyonce
My winner: You Belong with Me – Taylor Swift
I am sorry to say that out of the many songs by Beyonce that I do like, “Single Ladies” is not one of them. I find it repetitive and annoying. “You Belong With Me” deserves the Grammy, maybe because I can relate to all of Swift’s songs. Honestly, I am not going to tell the guy that I like to put a ring on it. Sorry, Beyonce.
Best New Artist
Winner: Zac Brown Band
My Winner: MGMT
First off, I am not a huge country music fan. So when the Zac Brown Band won, I was not happy. Second, if I am listening to country music, it is only Taylor Swift. Thus, MGMT is the real winner here. No questions asked.
Best Female Pop Vocal Performance
Winner: “Halo” – Beyonce
My Winner: “Halo” – Beyonce
This song is a much better song than “Single Ladies.” Beyonce has beautiful lyrics, along with a perfect melody. It was a close contest between Beyonce and Swift though.
Best Male Pop Vocal Performance
Winner:”Make it Mine” – Jason Mraz
My Winner: “If You Don’t Know Me by Now” – Seal
This song is a classic and whenever I see it or hear it, I end up belting it out. Sorry, Jason, I’m not yours this time.
Best Pop Performance By a Duo or Group With Vocals
Winner: “I Gotta Feelin’” – The Black Eyed Peas
My Winner: “I Gotta Feelin’” – The Black Eyed Peas
The ultimate feel good song. I have nothing more to say.
Best Pop Vocal Record
Winner: The E.N.D – The Black Eyed Peas
My Winner: The E.N.D – The Black Eyed Peas
This is probably one of the best Black Eyed Peas albums. None of the other nominees were that good.
Best Electronic/ Dance Album
Winner: “The Fame” – Lady Gaga
My Winner: “Party Rock” – L.M.F.A.O
L.M.F.A.O has more catchy lyrics and a better dancing beat. Sorry, Lady Gaga, not this time.
Best Rock Song
Winner: “Use Somebody” – Kings of Leon
My Winner: “21 Guns” – Green Day
I will admit, this is a little biased, coming from a hardcore Green Day fan, but I love both Green Day and Kings of Leon. I just love Green Day more.
Best Rock Album
Winner: “21st Century Breakdown” – Green Day
My Winner: “21st Century Breakdown” – Green Day
I was ecstatic and nothing can surpass my happiness. Great job, Green Day!
Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group
Winner: “Crack a Bottle”- Eminem, Dr. Dre, and 50 Cent
My Winner: “Amazing” – Kanye West and Young Jeezy
I cannot believe I am typing this, but I think Kanye should have won this one. Even though he is a complete jerk and I hate him, I cannot stand to see Eminem win.
Best Comedy Album
Winner: “A Colbert Christmas: The Greatest Gift of All”
My Winner: “A Colbert Christmas: The Greatest Gift of All”
Stephen Colbert from “The Colbert Report” on Comedy Central. I love that man. He is one of the funniest people ever and he deserved to win a Grammy. Plus, his daughter finally thinks he’s cool, so there you go.
