“One, two Freddy’s coming for you.”
As I sat in Regal Cinemas to watch the remake of the famous movie “Nightmare on Elm Street,” the old jingle of “Freddy’s song” immediately came back to me. The small innocent children jump roping, the creepy gardener who abused the children in his boiler room apartment, the angry parents who chased Freddy through the town and burned him alive, and the forever continuing nightmares.
Freddy Kruegar will always be completely terrifying. Both then and now, he can be considered one of the scariest villains of all time.
“Three, four better lock your door.”
There is only one way to keep Freddy out of your life: Do not fall asleep. This seemingly impossible task becomes more difficult because after one doesn’t not sleep for an extended period of time, he can undergo insomnia, which will eventually have people sleeping while they are awake. The movie did a great job at portraying how tired and anxious Quentin (Kyle Gallner), Nancy (Rooney Mara), Jesse (Thomas Dekker), Kris( Katie Cassidy), and Dean (Kellan Lutz) became.
“Five, six grab your crucifix.”
There is no way to kill Freddy because he only exists in your dreams. The only defense you have is to awaken – one of the hardest things to do. Each of the victims would awaken several times, before eventually being killed in the most gruesome way possible: slashed down the stomach, knives through the head, knives through the stomach, and of course, the throat slash. All of these images were depicted in the most realistic way. You felt the pain each victim was undergoing.
“Seven, eight better stay up late.”
Injection of Ritalin, lots of coffee, your iPod, and burning yourself. Anything you can do to stay awake to help you escape Freddy.
“Nine, ten never sleep again.”
After watching this movie, it may not be a good idea to try sleeping.
