Ga-Ga oh la la!
This is the new sound of victory for all of “Mama Monster’s” little monster fans. Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance won the award for Video of the Year on MTV’s VMA premier night September 12.
Gaga managed to walk away with a total of eight awards for the night, which was surprisingly more jaw dropping than her plethora of weird and odd dresses. She changed her outfit a total of three times during the night, as it is a custom for her.
Let’s move on from Lady Gaga to Justin Bieber.
And now let’s pause for all the screaming 12 year old girls.
Bieber managed to obtain the Best New Artist award. I can honestly say that I do not have anything against Justin Bieber. He is a great artist.
For 12 year old girls.
To see him win that award, or any award for that matter, didn’t really do anything for me. Sorry 12 year olds, better luck next time.
30 Seconds to Mars nabbed the Best Rock Video for “Kings and Queens,” which was fitting and well deserved. They are a great alternative band that does not get the recognition I feel they deserve.
Eminem was also another star of the night. He grabbed two awards that included Best Male Video and Best Hip Hop Video. I must admit, even if I am not a huge Eminem fan, his new album, “Recovery,” was fairly decent. It deals with issues that many individuals face. For example, his powerful song “Love the Way You Lie” discusses domestic violence.
Of course, I must mention the tension between Kanye West and Taylor Swift. I am positive that everyone remembers the situation last year where Kanye took it upon himself to go up on the stage and tell the entire audience that Beyoncé deserved the award for “Best Female Video,” rather than Taylor.
This year, there seemed to be a Part II.
Both artists were scheduled to play at the VMA’s. Taylor’s song was sympathetic and talked about how Kayne was still growing and finding himself, while Kayne song was essentially slandering himself. He referred to himself as very inappropriate names not family friendly, and I was rather shocked that MTV let those words slide.
But, it is MTV — anything can happen.
Chelsea Handler was the host of the show. I love her TV show, but I was not impressed with her jokes. They all centered around one topic: sex. It got a little old after awhile.
All in all, the VMA’s were average. Nothing really stood out to me about this year’s show. However, Kanye didn’t interfere with anyone’s speech, so we thank him for holding his tongue for one night.
