“You Again” is two scoops of crazy and a side of oh my gosh.
This movie features Gail (Jamie Lee Curtis) as the mom, Marni (Kristen Bell) as the daughter, and the adorable Betty White as Grandma Bunny.
The movie begins by focusing on teenage Marni, who has difficulties fitting in at high school. She isn’t the pretty one and is often made fun of because she has zits and wears glasses. She has an arch nemesis, Joanna (Odette Yustman).
As she grows older, Marni learns that she could take these bad occurrences in her high school years and turn them into something better. She eventually becomes vice president of a public relations firm in New York.
Then, she finds out that her brother is getting married.
It’s no shocker when we see Marni’s is panic-stricken face that her brother is marrying Joanna. When she arrives home, she tries to ruin the engagement and end the wedding any way she can.
Meanwhile, Gail encounters her high school rival, Ramona (Sigourney Weaver), who is Joanna’s aunt. Gail and Ramona were best friends in high school until Gail stole Ramonna’s crush as a prom date.
Ramona’s jealousy and anger created a break in their friendship until they came in contact at Gail’s house for wedding discussions and plans.
The movie over all was fantastic and the actresses and actors were perfect role choices. I would have liked to see more of the relationship between Marni and her high school friend, Charlie.
The movie only shows a glimpse of what their connection was back in high school but we never get to see if there was really a spark between them in the current time period.
The movie was incredible; with its hysterical comedy and wild and crazy dance scenes, “You Again” was the perfect depiction of a typical high school girl bully.
Joanna, the mean annoying popular wanna-be, really fit the description of that “popular girl” for maybe back in the late ‘80’s. I found her really annoying throughout the eniter movie. These days with all of this technology you can make someone’s life as miserable and crappy through a text as you could standing right in front of them.
