It’s our favorite time of the week. It’s time for the upcoming movie previews for the week of Friday, October 8.
Rating: PG-13
Genre: Comedy, Romance
Info: Uh-oh. It’s another Katherine Heigl romantic comedy. Heigl plays Holly Berenson who is a caterer. She goes on a horrible first date with Eric Messer, played by Josh Duhamel, who is a promising network sports director. The only thing the two have in common is that they are both godparents to Sophie, a mutual friend’s child. But suddenly when Sophie’s real parents are out of the picture, Berenson and Messer must learn how to live together.
Our recommendation: Rent It
2. My Soul to Take
Rating: n/a
Genre: Suspense, Thriller
Info: In Riverton, there is a legend that tells of a serial killer who promised that he would return to murder seven children, the exact seven children that were born the night that he died. Fast forward 16 years and people are beginning to disappear. Did the serial killer come back to life? Is that even possible? This is another Wes Craven film, but it is being shown in 3-D. Yikes! Please let’s stop this 3-D nonsense.
Our recommendation: Rent it
3. Secretariat
Rating: PG
Genre: Drama
Info: This is based on the true story about the spectacular journey of the 1973 Triple Crown winner. Penny Chenery (Diane Lane) agrees to take over her father’s Virginia-based Meadow Stables, even though she has no clue how to run a horse stable. Chenery, with the help of veteran trainer Lucien Laurin (John Malkovich), navigates the male-dominated business, ultimately winning the first Triple Crown in 25 years. While this does seem like a great true story, the whole race horsing genre, seems kind of mundane.
Our recommendation: Skip it
