The MTV Europe Music Awards will be live on MTV from Caja Magica in Madrid on Nov. 7, 2010.
The Awards celebrate the best in music and are chosen by European MTV viewers.
Although it is the “Europe Music Awards,” many of the nominated artists are not European. American artists are very popular in Europe, and music sensations like Eminem and Britney Spears have won seven EMAs.
The top song in Europe is currently “Written in the Stars” by Tinie Tempah, and “Just the Way You Are” by Bruno Mars follows at number two. Numbers five through eight on the European charts are occupied by American artists that are also top hits in America.
However, European artists, such as Muse, should have their own type of MTV Music Awards. Instead, the reality is that all of the American artists occupy the charts. It’s just another outlet for Lady Gaga and Katy Perry to win awards.
Let’s give the European artists a chance.
Lady Gaga and Katy Perry were each nominated for five 2010 MTV Europe Music Awards.
Gaga, Katy Perry, and Rihanna will be fighting it out for the Best Pop, Best Female Act, and Best Song categories.
Miley Cyrus and Usher also join in the Best Pop category competition, and Cyrus and Shakira are the Best Female nominees.
Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance,” Katy Perry’s “California Gurls,” and Usher’s “OMG,” are all up for Best Song. Rihanna’s feature with “Rude Boy” and her Eminem collaboration “Love the Way You Lie” are also nominees for Best Song. “Love the Way You Lie” will also go up against Lady Gaga’s “Telephone” and Katy Perry’s “California Gurls” in the Best Video category. Joining them will be 30 Seconds to Mars‘ “Kings and Queens” and Plan B’s “Prayin’.”
Lady Gaga will take on Bon Jovi, Muse, Kings of Leon, and Linkin Park for Best Live Act, while Kings of Leon, Muse, and Linkin Park will battle it out with 30 Seconds to Mars and Ozzy Osbourne for the Best Rock category.
For the Best Male Honor, Justin Bieber is nominated as well as Kanye West, Eminem, Usher and Enrique Iglesias. Justin Bieber will also compete for the Best New Act Honor along with Ke$ha, B.o.B, Jason Derulo, and Plan B.
