This week’s episode of Pretty Little Liars was the winter premiere for the second half of the season.
The eerie opening theme song immediately lit our PLL fire once again as secrets were revealed and lingering questions began to be answered. The main focus of the episode centered on Hanna in the hospital, but also covered each of the girls’ situations.
Hanna: With a broken leg and ankle, bruised ribs, and a damaged spleen, Hanna is stuck in the hospital and perhaps the most vulnerable of the four girls. With visitors coming in and out the entire episode, the creepiest was Alison herself making an appearance. Though this might have been a dream or a hallucination of Hanna’s, hopefully more light is shed on this scene in coming episodes.
“A” also made an appearance by signing Hanna’s leg cast. Though the identity of “A” is still not revealed, clues are coming together as to who it may be.
After his muddy shoes in Episode nine and his appearance in this episode in the hospital, we’re starting to see a different side of Lucas. Despite Hanna saying that she just wanted to be friends, Lucas kissed her forehead and left the hospital upset. As a former victim of Alison and company’s ridicule, we can’t help but think he might have something to do with it all.
Hanna also reveals to the four girls who she saw write a possible “A” message on a mysterious car at Camp Mona. It was Noel.
Hanna seems to be unsure of her feelings for Lucas. He creeps us out, but he has always been sweet.
Aria: Uh oh, Aria. It looks like you’re in trouble. Your three best friends now know about your totally illegal relationship with hottie Mr. Fitz. We might be the only ones, but we absolutely love Ezria (Aria and Mr. Fitz). Hopefully, Noel will not blow their fragile cover. Though it’s obvious that Aria doesn’t wait to hurt Noel, she still wants Fitz.
We love Aria. She may be scandalous, but she’s definitely not the worst one. Every one of the girls has some skeletons in her closet. We’re just glad Aria can finally be open, to her friends at least, about Ezra.
Emily: While Emily was trying to get in touch with Toby in jail by phone, she was confronted by Jenna. Jenna then said, “I’m not going to let anyone else come between us [Jenna and Toby] again.” Emily quickly fired back with, “Somebody should’ve come between you two a long time ago, maybe a social worker with a bucket of ice water.”
Though Emily is worried about and is still trying to defend Toby, she has many more important issues on her plate. She came out of the closet to her parents that she’s gay. And though her father tries to understand and accept the news, her mother just tries to “fix” the situation. Poor Emily.
We feel so bad for Emily, and wish her parents would be more open and accepting of her.
Spencer: Spencer’s problems, or secrets rather, were rarely dealt with in the episode until the end. When she takes Aria to look at the tree that she and Emily found at Mona’s party, the tree was cut down. That’s when Spencer and Aria start to think that they may be dealing with more than one person as “A” and Alison’s killer.
Conveniently in the next scene with Aria and Spencer, Melissa and Ian reveal that they’ve eloped. Spencer is shocked at the news, remembering her and Ian’s incident two summers back.
We were shocked as well. At first, we thought, “What the bleep is that!?” We understand that Melissa maybe needed someone after she and Wren crashed and burned, but Ian? Really?
After the initial shock, we thought about it for a while and came up with a theory. Maybe this was all planned. Did Ian and Melissa team up to kill Alison and are they both “A,” threatening all the girls’ deepest secrets to save themselves? It’s crazy, but plausible.
The episode had to end with a spine-chilling scene of a fireplace burning the logs of the tree chopped down in the woods with the carving of “Alison + Ian” in a heart. Are these logs heating up the hearth of the newlyweds? We’ll have to wait and see.
Current “A” suspects: Mona, Noel, Jenna, Lucas, Ian, Melissa, Alison herself (if we consider that Hanna’s vision was not a dream).
Possibly involved in Alison’s murder: Mona, Jenna, Lucas, Melissa, Ian, Alison (again, considering that scene was not a dream).
