Episode 12: Where do I belong?
Judging by the text update I received from ABC (“Is Gaby heading toward a nervous breakdown?”) regarding tonight’s episode, it looks as though my prediction that she’ll become the next Katherine might come true.
Just what we need—another psychotic neighbor living on Wisteria Lane.
Other critics might argue that Gaby’s plotline was a disaster, but I actually found myself laughing out loud at how ridiculous her plotline was. She’s more than obsessed with the doll that bears a striking resemblance to Grace.
Gaby nearly had a nervous breakdown upon discovering that hurricanes Juanita and Celia blew through her room, leaving everything, including the Grace doll, destroyed. Honestly, she should be more panicked at the sight (funny as it may be) of finding Celia with the doll’s arm in her mouth. That might be a problem.
Gaby’s craziness was evident when she returned to the sketchy doll store and couldn’t bring herself to part with Princess Valerie, as she apparently named it. The store owner isn’t much help either, telling Gaby that “it’s absolutely normal” to feel so attached to a doll. Either they’re just acting completely childish, or they’re seriously crazy. I’m leaning toward the later.
Acting childish is exactly how Lynette, Gaby’s neighbor up the street, behaved during this episode. Her revenge tactics of torturing Tom might make the audience laugh, but Renee’s right for once: it’s a little immature.
I couldn’t help but agree with Renee there until Lynette explained that she’s just not ready to get over Tom’s affair. This is her way of dealing with the situation.
Just as all Tom-Lynette conflicts are peacefully resolved, I fully expected to see the make-up scene at the end of the show.
By winning back his wife’s affection, Tom showed that one mistake can’t ruin the life he and Lynette share. And even though the resolution was to be expected, I couldn’t help but get misty-eyed when the Scavo parents reconciled and held hands under the dinner table.
There weren’t any teardrops falling during Susan’s scenes, however. Her storyline is depressing, sure, but it’s not very interesting.
I was excited to see Julie again. She’s so sweet—too bad Susan didn’t seem grateful that Julie was willing to donate her kidney. Instead, Susan was horrified that Julie called Susan’s mother, informing her that Susan was sick. I don’t see what the problem is. Julie was just trying to help.
Susan’s mother and her sister, Claire, arrived at the hospital in what was perhaps the most pointless plotline I’ve ever seen. To make a long story short, Susan got mad at her mother because her mother refused to get tested to see if she was a match for a kidney transplant. Then Claire informed Susan that her mother had breast cancer but was afraid to tell Susan in an attempt to not burden her sick daughter.
I think we’re supposed to cry or feel touched during Susan and her mother’s “emotional” scene in the hotel bedroom. There, Susan’s mom tells her that “my life began the day you were born, and it’s been such a happy one.”
During those five minutes, I instead considered possible reasons why the “Desperate Housewives” writers wasted so much time on that scene. At least they did a good job casting Lesley Ann Warren as Susan’s mother. She and Teri Hatcher could pass for a real-life mother-daughter combination.
The Paul-Beth Young plotline continues to become more intriguing as it develops each week.
The drama unfolded at the neighborhood women’s social gathering, which Beth attended for the first time. The room was nearly silent until all of a sudden, Beth found a gun under a pillow on the couch. Too bad no one admitted to knowing where it came from.
My suspicions that the delivery boy who dropped off flowers earlier at Bree’s house also left the gun came true.
In the final minutes of the episode, the delivery boy’s identity was revealed—it’s Zach Young. Could it be that Paul’s own son, Zach, was his shooter?
Sure looks that way, but in typical “Housewives” fashion, there could always be a twist. Needless to say, I’m definitely hooked on the show again.
