Missing something? I’ll bet Kitty Softpaws stole it.
Puss in Boots 3D features some familiar faces from childhood stories, like Humpty Dumpty (Zack Galifianakis), Jack and Jill (Billy Bob Thornton and Amy Sedaris), and of course, Puss in Boots (Antonio Banderas), made famous because of his signature hat and boots from the Shrek series. New characters, like Kitty Softpaws (Selma Hayek), who is known for having the softest paws and as the best thief in town because of it, are also introduced.
Humpty and Puss grew up together in an orphanage, and throughout their childhood, they dreamt of the day when they would find magic beans that would grow into a beanstalk, similar to the childhood story of Jack and the Beanstalk.
Humpty and Puss are best friends until Puss receives a pair of boots for saving the grandmother of the town’s police chief. Humpty becomes jealous of Puss, and begins to commit crimes like stealing the townspeople’s money. Humpty betrays Puss when he tricks him into helping to steal money, and Puss is caught.
Puss runs away from the disappointment of his mother and the trouble he would face from the law in his home town, and has been on the run ever since.
The movie reminded me of my childhood with the references to beanstalks, magic beans, Humpty Dumpty, and Jack and Jill and the family-friendly PG rating makes it something children of young ages can enjoy. However, some adult humor placed throughout the film makes it enjoyable for adults and teens as well.
The 3D effects weren’t overly impressive, so I’d recommend seeing it 2D. Although the 3D wasn’t remarkable, I can’t imagine how much time and energy the Dreamworks’ creators spent on this film. All of their hard work paid off in the end, because the graphics and animation were brilliant.
Puss in Boots 3D was also very successful. Dreamworks released Puss in Boots 3D on Oct. 28, and the movie did surprisingly well, bringing in approximately $35 million dollars opening weekend, beating Paranormal Activity 3 ($9 million), which also premiered on Halloween weekend.
With its family-friendly humor and wonderful animation, Puss in Boots 3D is a film worth seeing. It brings childhood fairytales to life in a beautifully produced and executed film.
