Since Adam Sandler plays both Jack and Jill in Columbia Picture’s new film, Jack and Jill, you would expect it to be twice as funny, right?
Wrong.
Between ethnic jokes and bathroom humor, the only people laughing in the theater were the 10 year old boys.
I sat through the whole movie, seriously contemplating walking out during the middle and hoped for something to redeem this terribly executed film.
Jack (Adam Sandler), a successful business man with a beautiful family and elaborate Los Angeles home, is extremely detached from his embarrassing, needy twin sister, Jill (Adam Sandler). Jill comes to visit Jack and his family every Thanksgiving. This time, she refuses to leave and ends up staying until the New Year holiday.
The character of Jill alone was enough to drive any viewer crazy. She was grotesque, loud, socially awkward, oblivious to the world around her, and leaves sweat stains in her bed.
But even more questionable than the character of Jill is the quandary of why there were so many celebrity cameos. Regis Philbin, Shaquille O’Neal, Drew Carey, Bruce Jenner, and Johnny Depp all made unnecessary appearances in the film. Johnny Depp was on screen for the longest time, but only for about two minutes where he said about 20 words. It was the only two minutes of the film that were even remotely decent.
Another one of the few positive aspects of this movie is Katie Holmes’ character as Jack’s wife. I couldn’t help but sympathized with Holmes’ character and desperately wanted to save her from being in this film.
It was obvious that the scriptwriters were trying too hard to be funny. The jokes were forced and unoriginal, and as the 10 year old boys laughed at the horribly unfunny banter, I cringed.
The 91 minutes spent listening to dreadful attempt at humor and watching a horrible plot unfold are not worth anyone’s money or time.
