It’s finally here.
That’s right at 12:01PM on Friday Nov. 18, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part One hit theaters. The hearts of millions of girls of all ages stopped as they witnessed the dapper Edward and Bella get hitched.
Regal Cinemas in Abingdon had a midnight showing of Breaking Dawn, and being a true “Twi-hard”, there was no way I would miss seeing one of the most anticipated films of the year a little earlier than everyone else.
The film chronicles the beginning of the marriage between our favorite vampire Edward Cullen, played by the swoon-worthy Robert Pattinson, and Bella Swan, played by the sometimes awkward Kristen Stewart. It also answers the two dying questions that trailers have been instilling in viewers: will Edward turn Bella into a vampire and if so, is Bella pregnant with a half vampire baby?
Breaking Dawn begins with a lavish woodland wedding between Edward and Bella, all planned by the chic vampire sister Alice Cullen (Ashley Green). The congregation has more vampires and werewolves than actual humans.
One of these werewolves, Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner), Bella’s former flame after Edward left her in the second film, New Moon, tries to sway Bella from losing her humanity and being with Edward. But Jacob fails from persuading Bella to leave Edward, and the two embark on their honeymoon to a remote island outside of Rio de Janeiro where the two, despite concerns from Edward, consummate their marriage.
Following the memorable night, Mr. and Mrs. Cullen spend the remainder of their honeymoon in a peaceful happiness exploring the island and spending time together. But their easygoing time is soon interrupted when Bella speculates that she is pregnant with a vampire baby. After her discovery, Edward rushes Bella back to Forks, Washington where she endures an emotionally and physically harrowing gestation period that leaves viewers wondering if Bella will survive the birth of her and Edward’s baby.
Like the rest of the Twilight films, Breaking Dawn features a killer playlist that contains a myriad of artists. Lesser known artists such as folk singer Iron & Wine and indie band Sleeping At Last are featured alongside mainstream artists such as Bruno Mars and Christina Perri.
The film is rated PG-13 because of the honeymoon scene and the somewhat gory birth scene towards the end of the film.
By far, Breaking Dawn was the best film out of the Twilight Saga. Breaking Dawn provided viewers with the right emotional doses throughout the film. Director Bill Condon knew when to keep the audience feeling happy and nervous. He also knew when to provide comic relief to alleviate the tension and to enhance the happiness.
Part Two is expected to come out in July 2012, and this Twi-hard will be there again at midnight.
