Junior Scott Strappelli has had the beat for DJ’ing in his blood his whole life. His dad has been a DJ since before he was even born, so it was only natural that sooner or later Strappelli would find his passion for being a DJ.
“Growing up, my dad always helped me and showed me his [DJ] equipment,” Strappelli said. Strappelli’s dad started showing him the ropes of becoming a DJ as well as how to run parties, weddings, and many other special occasions two years ago when he was 14.
Not only did Strappelli learn DJ’ing because his dad is a DJ, but he also found his interest in the art on his own. “What interested me was the fact that you run the party and people rely on you to make sure the music is good, and how you can make the mood of the party lift and make it exciting,” Strappelli said.
Strappelli has officially been a DJ for a year and a half, but he “really started getting committed a couple months ago,” Strappelli said. So far, Strappelli has DJ’ed for house parties, dance parties, and about a dozen Sweet 16 parties. While most of his events take place at people’s houses, he has also DJ’ed events at the Fallston Fire Hall, as well as other fire halls and lodges.
As for his music, Strappelli changes it up depending on the occasion he’s DJ’ing for. “If it’s a house party, usually [I play] what’s popular or on the radio, or songs people haven’t heard in a while. If it’s a dance party, the ones I like the most, I find songs from YouTube and all kinds of club artists. I make sure they have good beats and put them on my Virtual DJ list, which is my software I use when I DJ parties,” Strappelli said.
Lately, Strappelli has been DJ’ing for “freebie” parties. “I did the free parties to get recognition and numbers from parents and people my age for their parties in the future, and it worked. That’s probably going to stop now because DJs get paid,” Strappelli said.
Strappelli is currently looking for DJ’ing jobs. If interested in booking Strappelli for an event, he is currently in the process of developing a website. For now, he can be contacted at (443) 752-5766 or [email protected].
