After a trip to Spain we realized two things: the Spaniards never sleep. They dance.
They dance to everything from American pop music to Brazilian hit songs. In the discos and at home everyone is jamming to the beat.
According to Top40-charts.com, Spain’s number one song is the Brazilian hit “Ai Se Eu Te Pego,” translating to “Oh, if I caught you” by Michel Telo. Popular amongst the young and old, the song isn’t only special for its catchy beat, but it also comes with a simple dance. Wherever you are in Spain, it is a guarantee that you will hear the song and immediately catch yourself doing the dance.
The top three English songs according to Top40-charts.com are “Give Me All Your Luvin” by Madonna, “We Found Love” by Rihanna, and “Someone Like You” by Adele. Due to the fact that Spain loves upbeat music, most of the time these songs are mixed together with techno beats.
Another widely known American pop star in Spain is David Guetta. Two of Guetta’s songs, “Titanium” and “Without You,” are also placed on Spain’s top 40.
Though the songs in Spain are popular, in America these songs have been on the charts for a while. Though Spaniards have good taste in music, their timing is delayed. “Moves Like Jagger” by Maroon 5 featuring Christina Aguilera, “Rolling in the Deep” by Adele, “Good Feeling” by Flo Rida, and “Sexy And I Know It” by LMFAO are just a few songs that have appeared on the Top 40.
Looking at the list of songs, American music definitely has made its mark in Spain. The majority of Spain’s hit songs are fast paced. Rarely does one hear a slow, somber melody on the radio. However, artists with slow tempos like Adele and James Blunt still find a special part in Spanish music lovers’ hearts.
Spain is always moving to the sound of its own beat. Whether it’s Madonna or David Guetta, the Spanish can dance to anything.
