Sitting in the car waiting in line for 15 minutes is an unusual situation for a fast food restaurant. After opening on April 15, the new Sonic on 924 caused an uproar amongst Harford County residents and even a few car accidents.
It is nice to have an option of doing the drive-thru, eating at the station, or sitting at a table. Pulling into the personal call box under each station, the patron has the opportunity to be catered to by a waiter or waitress on skates.
After the ordering and devouring the meal, the patron has the option of sitting there for however long they would like with the luxury of calling the waiter back with the push of a button.
Sonic’s menu is like no other fast food restaurant menu around. Instead of sticking with the usual side of French fries, Sonic offers tater tots, mozzarella sticks, and jalapeno peppers, just to name a few. The meals are highly customizable with tons of options for drinks, sides, and desserts.
Though the bill can quickly rack up and the food is not necessarily good for the body, it definitely gets your taste buds jumping. I ordered the Sonic bacon hamburger, crisp, golden tater tots as a side, and washed it down with an ice cold cherry limeade all for about $6.99.
Happy hour for drinks and slushies is daily from two to four, where the drinks are half off. With over 300,000 combinations of flavors, it can’t get any better than that.
Another great option is the Bacon Cheeseburger Toaster Sandwich. It’s very similar to the Sonic Bacon Hamburger, but it’s on bread and it is toasted. The Toaster comes with barbecue sauce and onion rings for those who like something a little different in their sandwiches.
One of the great sides is the mozzarella sticks. They are crisp and not oily, which is a breath of fresh air in comparison to many other fast food mozzarella sticks. For a drink, the lemonade slush is perfect for the spring season because it’s refreshing and perfectly sweet.
Sonic’s provides a great atmosphere for those who want a vintage feel and wish to sit in a drive-in restaurant. Service is quick and the servers are kind. It’s a great place to chill with friends and entertain yourself as you watch the servers glide by on their roller-skates. Every complete mealhas a great deal of calories, but it was delicious and worth the extra weight as well as the extra wait.
