“Midway,” a 2019 remake of the original 1976 movie and is not a disappointment.
Those interested in World War II movies would likely enjoy the movie “Midway.” The movie’s storyline follows the American Navy in the attack on Pearl Harbor and the Battle of Midway both against the Japanese troops.
“Midway” is rated PG-13 and is not suitable for younger children, but for a war and action movie, it is suitable for high schoolers and older. “Midway” is a war and action movie that was released in November of 2019 and details the events of December 7, 1941 and the six months leading up to June of 1941 in the Battle of Midway.
The main focus of the story is a squad of brave fighter pilots who sacrifice themselves for the United States and its freedom, time and time again.
Although there are many causalities of this squad, they do not give up. The movie is based on real events that occurred in World War II.
There is also a focus on the intelligence officers who are behind decoding military messages sent from the Japanese before and after the attack on Pearl Harbor. It portrays their shortcomings before December 7, but then it shows their perseverance in the events leading up to June, 1942.
The major cast includes Ed Skrein, Patrick Wilson, Woody Harrelson, Luke Evans, Mandy Moore, Dennis Quaid and Nick Jonas.
The way these characters are portrayed in “Midway” is impressive. With some war movies, there is not a lot of room for character development, but that is not the case in “Midway.”
Action, battle scenes, heroism, death and CGI are all in this one movie. There are many jam-packed battle scenes and near-death experiences to keep viewers on the edge of their seats throughout the entire movie. However, “Midway” can be very graphic during these scenes.
People who like movies that are focused on the United States military will likely enjoy “Midway.” With the plot focused on America’s part in the second major World War, not only does it show very graphically the events on December 7, 1941 with the attack on Pearl Harbor, but it also shows major plane battle scenes, as well as the events on June 4, 1942.
The movie is available and streaming on Hulu, HBO and Amazon Prime Video. Overall the movie “Midway” is a great Hollywood depiction of military events from World War II and definitely worth the time to watch.
