The highly-anticipated ‘He’s All That’ is not all that
September 30, 2021
A new movie came out on August 25, 2021 called ‘He’s All That’ with the release being a huge hit. On Netflix, this movie is rated TV-14 and the movie had reached number one among viewers within the first week of release.
This movie is a remake of an 1999’s “She’s All That” with a very similar plot behind it.
This movie has been catching widespread attention on the media as the main character, Padgett Sawyer, is played by Addison Rae. Rae is a social media influencer with currently 84.5 million followers on Tik Tok.
Although this movie has been excessively talked about, it feels very cheesy. In the movie, Padgett is a popular girl in her school with lots of friends, lots of followers on social media, and a rich taste in her lifestyle.
Her world seems so perfect until an embarrassing video of her is published online to her many fans. In hopes of redeeming her high profile, she makes a bet with her friends, Alden and Quinn, to turn a geeky guy into the next prom king.
If Padgett loses this bet, her friends are allowed to post an embarrassing photo or video to her many fans on social media.
Through the movie, Padgett keeps her bet a secret between her friends as she also hides secrets about her personal life. Things go too well up until her secrets get exposed.
Going into this movie, I was not sure what I was going to think of it. Through the movie, it felt cringey with the theme of the popular girl going with a nerdy boy as they gain popularity together. This is a concept that is often overdone in many new Netflix movies.
I would relate this movie to The Kissing Booth series and To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before.
Also, Addison Rae being in this movie was an interesting choice to me. She is a widely-known and is a somewhat controversial person as a social media star, so it was intriguing to watch her move onto a movie screen.
I understand how Rae relates to her character as they both are portrayed on social media, but I did not think her acting was done well. It is frustrating to see this main character role being given to somebody strictly for their popularity rather than someone who is more qualified for it.
This movie is entertaining if one is just looking for something to watch, but it is not a movie I would go out of my way to see. The production is not high quality for what it is hyped up to be, so overall I was disappointed in this movie.
