February is the month when Valentine’s Day falls — a time filled with love, happiness, and memories. Valentine’s Day is a day you can celebrate with your loved ones and honor the time you’ve spent together.

Valentine’s Day is annually on February 14. It’s also a Christian feast day honoring two early Christian martyrs through their romance and love.

Valentine’s Day is filled with gifts from your loved ones. One of the most popular things people receive on this day is flowers.

Flowers are known to symbolize romance, marriage, and love.

An online blog called City Flowers discussed how during the Victorian Era, flowers were used to send secretive messages. In the 17th century, Venus, the goddess of love, said that red roses were her favorite flower, and they would symbolize the feeling of love.

A florist’s most popular time of year is the during the Valentine’s season. On the same blog, it reports that nearly two billion dollars is spent on flowers during the month of February.

Red roses are the most popular flower to be bought, with about 250 million red roses being sold during the Valentine’s Day season.

CNN reported that about 51% of people buy red roses over any other flower.

Some of the JC staff were asked about what type of flowers they receive or give on Valentine’s Day.

School Nurse Stacey Quigg said she gets roses and lilies.

Assistant Director of Admissions Caroline Adolph said she receives peonies.

Plants are also other popular options for Valentine’s Day gifts.

Physics Teacher Anthony Davidson commented, “My wife likes to grow plants, and will need some luck with a new baby on the way, so I am giving her a Lucky Bamboo plant.”

These are just a handful of flowers that get received as gifts from their loved ones on Valentine’s Day.

February 14 will long be an annual celebration of love.

This time of year also reminds us to tell our loved ones how we love them and what they mean to us.
