‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ is the go-to summer show
Many people’s summers were filled with binge watching ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty.’
The show stars Lola Tung as Belly as viewers get to watch her adventures throughout the summer as she picks between two brothers who are in love with her: Gavin Casalegno as Jeremiah Fisher and Christopher Briney as Conrad Fisher.
This has been a perfect show to keep people wanting more and more, keeping many on the edges of their seats and wondering what was going to happen next at Cousin’s Beach.
It provides a thrill and summer romance that keeps viewers involved in the show.
The Summer I Turned Pretty initially was released on June 17, 2022 as a romance TV show.
This show took over this summer as the number one show watched in 2023 according to Prime Video. Producer Jenny Han, the book’s writer, brought the book to the small screen.
The first season of The Summer I Turned Pretty takes place in Cousins Beach where we are introduced to some more characters: Steven, Belly’s older brother; Laurel, Steven’s and Belly’s mother; Susannah, the mother of Jeremiah and Conrad Fisher, and Taylor, Belly’s best friend.
The first season focuses on the love triangle between Belly and the Fisher brothers and how she is in love with both of them. She loves how each of them has such a different personality and how they are so different from each other. They both love and care for Belly as shown throughout the season.
In the second season they become more serious as they mature, and Belly is forced to make the decision on which brother she wants to be with.
The Fisher brothers start to realize more that they both are in love with Belly, and they no longer see her in a little sister role.
In the second season there is also a new problem that comes to light, and that’s when Susannah discovers that her cancer has come back. Throughout the season, it shows her fighting the disease and how the brothers deal with the heart break of their mother’s cancer coming back.
Toward the end of the season, Belly has to pick which brother she wants to be with in the end.
Overall, this is a perfect show to watch for people who are seeking that summer romance feeling. The love triangle brings out many conflicts and many emotions as we also watch Susannah fight cancer and how it affects the family. – Juli Aragon
‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ is a great choice for binging
The series ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ turned into the show of the summer for many teens all over the country.
With main actors, Lola Tung as Belly Conklin, Christopher Briney as Conrad Fisher, and Gavin Casalegno and Jeremiah Fisher, this Amazon Prime, coming-of-age romantic drama has had a strong two years of airing.
However, is it a Binge or Cringe?
In the small town of Cousins Beach, brothers Jeremiah and Conrad, spend the summer with their mother’s best friend’s children, Belly and Steven. The first season follows the twisted and crazy love triangle between Belly, Jeremiah, and Conrad.
After love, heartbreak, and a volleyball match, season one ends with Belly finally choosing Jeremiah or Conrad. Season two, on the other hand, is an entirely new adventure for the kids.
As Jeremiah and Conrad’s aunt Julia tries to sell the beloved beach house where the crew has spent every summer together, things get more complicated in the love triangle. Emotions are high, tears fall, and romance wavers.
I waited so long for this second season to come out. After loving the first season, I had very high expectations for the second go-around. The plot is the best part of this show, with twists and turns you would never expect.
As far as the acting goes, while not the best acting ever, for young breakthrough roles for these actors, I would say it’s pretty good.
The costumes are decent, I personally believe that adults trying to do teen costumes will never be spot on. As far as the characters go, boo on Aunt Julia and Skye.
In regard to Belly’s character, I really like her, but the switching between brothers is a little out of hand; however, I don’t blame her for it.
Overall, season two gets four out of five stars. It is hard to top such a good first season, but season two wasn’t so awful that I would never watch it again.
I would still recommend it as a great watch for summer or for someone who likes a good love triangle.
Even though it was rough for us Conrad girlies, I still believe season two was good, and I’m hoping for season three. The Summer I Turned Pretty season two, while a little cringey, gets a solid vote for a binge. – Sophia Townsley
