The Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, also known as the SAG-AFTRA, is representing thousands of Hollywood actors during the strike.
The strike has resulted in many TV shows going dark. Two reasons are behind this.
The first is that studios with the big name streaming services have refused negotiation for performers’ pay raises. The performers who aren’t big names, but still equally important to the creation of a certain entertainment piece, only get paid $26,000 per year.
Another unease about pay is that actors earn less for work that is streamed.
The second influence of the strike is the loose regulation of artificial intelligence in production. Due to the high level of artificial intelligence now, actors have raised concerns that they will be used to train A.I. and fear that they will be replaced by them.
Many fan-favorite shows have been either stopped in production works or taken completely off the air.
For example, almost all the late night shows have ended.
Jimmy Kimmel Live, CBS’s The Late Show, and NBC’s Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon are currently showing reruns until the strike ends.
AMC’s Walking Dead spin-off has a completed script, but no production has started, and cast members are unsure as to when it will air.
Season six on the highly popular Netflix show, Cobra Kai, hasn’t even begun the writing process. The set is empty with no actors and writers.
Another hit Netflix show, Stranger Things, has recently announced that the series will not be released until an agreement is made between the two parties.
While many big-name actors make a lot of money, it is a time of struggle for the rest of the incredible actors who need to make a living as well.
