‘The Sound of Music’ will open on the evening of Friday, November 10.
Director of Performing Arts Julie Parrish said, “It felt like the right time to bring back a classic” as to why The Sound of Music was selected.
This will be the third time The Sound of Music will be performed in John Carroll. The first two performances were in 1972 and 1989.
The musical was picked with no cast in mind and just like with any other show the main focus will be putting out the best version of the show.
There’s a lot of focus on the vocal work for the nuns and individual character work as well as strong acting and singing. However, there are less large dance numbers than in past shows.
“The goal is to be able to put it all together to do justice to the story since it’s based on a real family and to fulfill the expectation of the audience for people who know the story or people coming to see it for the first time,” said Mrs. Parrish.
A difference with this show compared to the last ones will be that some of the main characters will be played by younger kids in the community.
Mrs. Parrish said she is “excited for the show itself” and the potential for putting together a large pit orchestra.
Senior Henry Coyner has the part of the father Captain Georg von Trapp.
“I auditioned for the Sound of Music because acting is one of my strongest passions, and I am always happy to perform for the John Carroll School,” commented Henry.
He is excited for the audience to see the performance and to be performing with all of the cast and crew.
