The movie ‘Home Alone’ was released in 1990; however every Christmas season, it bounces back onto many families’ televisions. The film stars Macaulay Culkin as Kevin McCallister, an eight-year-old with a penchant for creating harmful inventions that protect his home.
The movie begins at Christmas time, and the McCallister family is preparing for a vacation in Paris. However, the youngest in the family, Kevin, is accidentally forgotten by his family while they rush to the airport.
Kevin has the house all to himself now, which at first, makes him happy. He likes having a pizza all to himself and jumps on his parents’ bed while making a mess.
Kevin then discovers two burglars who are about to rob his house on Christmas Eve because they believe no one is home.
Kevin has to makeshift booby traps and wire the house to, hopefully, stop the burglars from breaking in. Will he be able to stop them?
This movie is a great pick for a snowy night while drinking hot chocolate and snuggling by the fire with loved ones. Any age can enjoy this comedy. The booby traps and crazy tricks that Kevin brings out to stop the burglars will give viewers a good laugh.
Home Alone is also very relatable to kids and brings nostalgia to adults as well. Being left home alone when you were a kid meant hearing strange noises and being afraid to look in the basement.
However, it also meant doing all the things that grown-ups would tell you to stop doing if they were there — things like staying up, eating all of the ice cream, and sleeping in your parents’ bed.
Remembering what it was like to be young is what makes this movie even more enjoyable. For the growing generation, they watch because they relate to Kevin and his actions.
This movie has remained family -friendly over the years and is a great watch multiple times over the Christmas season. Grab your family, some hot chocolate and warm blankets, turn on the fire, and watch the movie.
