‘The Santa Clause’ is a 1994 comedy movie about a man named Scott Calvin who accidentally scares Santa on Christmas Eve, resulting in his falling off of a roof, and Scott’s becoming the new Santa. Scott’s son Charlie tries to convince his mom, stepdad, and everyone he knows that his dad’s job is being Santa.
The movie starts with a scene of Scott at work. He is running late to pick up Charlie from his mom’s for Christmas. Charlie is upset about having to spend Christmas with his dad but at least hopes Santa will still come.
Then, on Christmas Eve, Charlie wakes up to the sound of Santa’s sleigh landing on the roof and wakes up his dad. Still half asleep, Scott takes Charlie outside to show him that nothing is there. However, when they take a step back, they see his sleigh on the roof. Scott yells up to him, Santa falls off, and he disappears from his suit, leaving Scott as the new Santa according to the “Santa Clause.”
Scott and Charlie travel to the North Pole and meet the head elf, Bernard, who tells Scott that by putting on the suit, he has accepted all the duties and position of being Santa. Overwhelmed by everything, they spend a night at the North Pole after a cup of hot chocolate, and they wake up in their own beds back at Scott’s house.
As time goes on, Scott starts gaining weight quickly, and his hair turns white. His ex-wife Laura, and her husband Neil think that he is doing this to keep thinking he is the new Santa. This leads them to the decision to have Scott’s visitation rights be taken away.
On Thanksgiving, Scott goes to talk to Charlie one more time, and while he is there, Bernard transports them all to the North Pole, making Laura and Neil think Charlie has been kidnapped. As a result, they call the police.
Charlie aids Scott in delivering his gifts and when they arrive at Laura and Neil’s house, Scott is arrested. A group of elves proceed to break him out of jail, and Scott returns Charlie back home.
Scott insists Charlie should spend Christmas Eve with Laura and Neil, and after telling Charlie about the importance of everyone in his family, Laura and Neil are convinced he is Santa.
Laura burns the documents that suspends the limit on Scott’s visitation rights and allows him to visit whenever he likes. Bernard then gives Charlie a magic snow globe that whenever he shakes it, Scott will come see him.
At the end of the movie, Charlie shakes the snow globe while Scott is delivering gifts, then Laura gives him permission to deliver gifts with Scott.
