Pop singer Taylor Swift is a global icon. In 2023 alone, she had the highest grossing tour and concert film, started dating Kansas City Chiefs tight-end Travis Kelce, released two new re-recorded albums, achieved billionaire status, and was ‘Time’s Person of the Year.’
The Eras Tour is the first tour in history to reach the billion-dollar milestone, and fans traveled all over the world to see. If I had the chance to see the tour, I would have gone back in May when she was in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, or New Jersey. The tour will not return to the US until the end of 2024. Every night there’s a show, there are fans who stream the concert, so those who couldn’t attend can watch.
Back in October, the Eras Tour concert film was released. I have seen the movie a total of three times: twice in theaters, and the extended version at home. Now the film is on Disney+ with even more songs from the show added. The film hit the platform one day earlier than expected.
During the tour, Swift announced and released two re-recorded albums, Speak Now and 1989. Both of the albums, especially 1989, take me back to my childhood with the very popular songs such as “Shake it Off,” “Bad Blood,” and “Blank Space.”
Throughout her tour, Swift also released singles such as “All of the Girls You Loved Before,” “Eyes Open,” and “Safe and Sound.” With the new Midnights album, she has released multiple variants with a different selection of songs. The only edition of the album that was not released was Midnights: The Late Night Edition, which include both “Karma ft. Ice Spice,” and “You’re Losing Me.”
Both of these songs are officially released, with “You’re Losing Me” as a single, and “Karma ft. Ice Spice” on Midnights: The Til Dawn Edition. The release of “Karma” took place on her tour at Metlife Stadium in New Jersey, where she premiered the music video and performed “Karma” with Ice Spice.
Each album also had new vault songs, and they did not fail to amaze me. My favorite vault song on Speak Now is “Castles Crumbling,” and on 1989, my favorite is “Say Don’t Go.”
This leaves two more re-recorded albums for Taylor to release: Taylor Swift and Reputation. I am most excited for Reputation, and some of my favorite songs are “Look What You Made Me Do,” “I Did Something Bad,” and “Dress.”
In April of 2023, Swift ended her six-year relationship with Joe Alwyn, and is now dating Travis Kelce who seems like a good person for her. He understands how much her career means to her, and they both support each other in their careers. Swift attended many football games, including the Super Bowl, last season. Kelce attended some of Swift’s concerts, as well.
In the football world, Swift has impacted both viewership and sales. Kelce’s jersey sales have spiked 400%, and with her at the games, viewership has increased in women and teens.
While many people enjoy Swift’s being at the game, there are a lot of people who do not.
People need to understand that she cannot control how many times the camera pans over her. To be honest, it seems like she is annoyed of it herself. The NFL is just taking advantage of the fact that she is there, and her presence is increasing viewership.
Another concern I have is the fact that like any other person, she is simply being human and supporting her boyfriend. When Kelce attends her shows, everyone is so happy to see him there, but when Swift shows up to a game, she receives comments like “She ruins football,” “Taylor Swift sucks” and “No one cares.”
People need to stop hating on her just for being a supportive partner.
At end last year, she was named the “Time’s Person of the Year.” Her photo was printed on magazine covers, and inside contained information from an interview with Swift which discussed Kelce, her career, the tour, and more.
2023 was the year of Taylor Swift, and 2024 seems to be continuing the trend.
