Junior Brandon Lewis strutted off the field after losing to Boys Latin. Even though JC came up short in the end, it didn’t matter. “We were down, but everyone
gathered together and played with heart the entire game, and even though we came up short, it was a great game in my mind,” Lewis said.
Lewis has grown up playing football. He has been a quarterback since he was six years old and has been playing for eleven years.
“I like being the quarterback because a lot of the game is in your hands and you get to be a leader in the role,” Lewis said.
Lewis was voted team captain at the beginning of the year. “For a junior he has really stepped up and is one of the toughest guys on the team,” senior Lucas Navin said. In his three years on the team, Lewis has missed around three practices because of sickness.
“I try to work hard in every drill in practice even though it is repetitive day in and day out,” Lewis said.
“Our season is going pretty well, but in all of the players’ and coach’s minds we should definitely be 4-2 instead of 3-3,” Lewis said. The team
lost a tough game against Boys Latin. The final score was 7-0. “It was a heartbreaker,” Lewis said. The JC team was holding them 0-0, but at the end of the first half Boys Latin threw a pass into the end zone and scored. “He really compliments our offence. He is a leader. He will definitely carry the team next
year,” senior and captain Jon Galarraga said.
Lewis’ goals for the season are to make it into the MIAA B conference playoffs. “We still have a chance to do that with a win over St. Mary’s and a win over Curley,” Lewis said.
Football is a big commitment, but Lewis does not feel that he needs to balance his different commitments. “Football definitely takes a lot of time, but to play you have to love the sport and be willing to sacrifice things in order to balance school and football,” Lewis said.
Lewis plans on continuing on football in college with a Division 3 team. “The best part of playing football is being involved in a family and working together with your teammates to win the game,” Lewis said.
“He is a very positive captain and he always helps people on the field when they make a mistake,” junior Alex Gambrell said.
