Admired for her extremely eccentric choices in clothing, Lady Gaga steals the spotlight in the fashion world. For those who are not afraid to make a bold statement and take a risk like Gaga, here are a few clothing suggestions to try. Are you brave enough to rock these looks?
Fur coats are no longer a distant trend from the 1920s-1950s. Many department stores are bringing the fur coat back into their junior and women’s sections. With controversy over coats made with real fur, many retail chains are targeting a bigger audience by creating synthetic faux fur. Wearing a faux fur coat creates a classy, vintage look.
However, wearing one in Harford County might be a little over-the-top and attract unwanted attention. Keep the amount of fur at the minimum. Try looking for coats that just have a fur collar or a fur cuff. This will make a statement without people questioning whether you’re wearing a Halloween costume.
Try wearing denim on denim. Although this may sound like a tacky 80s fad, denim on denim can look extremely trendy if worn the proper way. It’s all about the wash. Pair light to medium washes with a wash that is one to two shades darker.
Never pair the same wash together. Be careful about going crazy with denim that has rips, tears, tie-dye, or acid stains. Accessorize an outfit with a brown or black skinny belt to help break up the denim and create an edgy, yet daring statement.
Inspired by the style of Blair Waldorf on “Gossip Girl,” tights with shorts are an up-and-coming trend that creates the perfect preppy look. Look for vibrant, jewel-toned opaque tights or tights that have transparent simple patterns, such as tiny polka dots or bows, and match them with trouser shorts.
Complete the outfit with a simple white oxford button-down and an autumnal hue cardigan. To really embrace the urban school girl look, finish the ensemble with a navy or olive green clip-on bow tie. If you’re not a fan of the preppy look, pair your tights with denim cutoffs to add a vibe of rock-‘n-roll.
Going along with this season’s obsession with equestrian style, jodhpur pants are appearing in all the newest collections in the latest magazines. Jodhpurs are loose-fitting trousers that end in a tight cuff around the ankle. Traditionally these pants are worn for horse riding and are a classic barnyard clothing staple.
However, in their modern form, they have become a popular and fashionable “bottle-neck” bottom. The unconventional pants take their name from a vibrant city in India where the pants began. A modern day must-have, jodhpur pants are bound to create a beautiful and suave silhouette.
Originating from the French word for “bell,” the cloche hat is a fitted, bell-shaped hat that was popular during the 1920s. Typically made of felt, the hat was designed to be worn low on the forehead, with the wearer’s eyes only slightly revealed below the brim. By the late 1920s, it became fashionable to turn the brims on cloche hats upwards and to wear different styles of ribbons to designate the relationship status of the wearer.
In the mid 1930s, the cloche hat was deemed to be obsolete, but today has been making a massive comeback since fall 2007 and Angelina Jolie’s role in “Changeling.” Comfortable for the head and warm enough to keep the cold weather out, the cloche hat is a vintage-inspired, lady-like accessory that many people adore.
