Junior Elliott Weinberg faced the crowd for the first time. He had been waiting for this moment since July. This was his debut as the bass player of the band “Cryin’ Out Loud.”
“It’s pretty exciting to see everyone cheering for you and they get really into it,” Weinberg said.
Weinberg is the latest addition to “Cryin’ Out Loud,” but has performed outside of the band as well. He started off playing guitar when he was younger, and switched to bass later in life. He’s also on drum line in JC’s marching band.
Weinberg auditioned for “Cryin’ Out Loud” in March, and sees playing bass as “not a full time thing, but as a hobby.” They are a cover band that performs everything from “Kings of Leon” to “The Beatles” to “Pink.”
Besides Weinberg, the band is made up of Fallston High School junior Piper Bateman, who sings lead vocals and plays guitar, senior Ethan Slusher, who plays drums and sings background vocals, St Paul’s graduate Emily Oursler, who plays guitar and sings background vocals, and C. Milton Wright junior Walsh Kunkel, who plays guitar and sings background vocals.
Slusher started his music career playing guitar at Maryland Conservatory of Music when he was nine years old. Later, after a few years playing with “Cryin’ Out Loud” he switched to drums to “try something new.”
“Cryin’ Out Loud’s” Facebook page has links to their music and upcoming performances. The band has 946 fans, and plans on rewarding the 1,000th fan with a special prize.
