JANUARY- The film M3GAN was released in theaters on January 6. The movie is a horror film with jump scares that was very popular on social media. The film created a popular dance that many participated in on TikTok.
FEBRUARY- Super Bowl LVll was held at State Farm Stadium. The Kansas City Chiefs took on the Philadelphia Eagles, resulting in a 38-35 win for the Chiefs. There were many memorable moments that took place at the Super Bowl. For example, the Kelce brothers, Travis and Jason, played against each other. Rihanna starred in the half-time show where she announced she was pregnant by showcasing her baby bump.
MARCH- Taylor Swift began her long-awaited Eras Tour. The tour began in Glendale, Arizona on March 17. Each show had a set list of 44 songs as she showcased 10 albums. The Eras Tour has taken over the world and is predicted to be the highest-grossing concert of all time.
APRIL- The Super Mario Bros. Movie was released on April 5 with many mixed reviews. Mario and Luigi must go through a crazy adventure until they meet up with other famous characters to defeat Bowser.
MAY- The live-action Little Mermaid was released on May 26. The film is very similar to the original version. The movie has very strong reviews, especially on the musical aspect of the film.
JUNE- The implosion of the Titan submersible took hold of the news and of social media. On June 18, the Titan imploded when it was on an expedition to look at the wreck and remains of the Titanic.
JULY- The Barbie Movie was released on July 21. Across the US, people flocked to the theaters in their best pink outfits to watch the new film. In the movie, Barbie learns about self-discovery and what it is like in the real world.
AUGUST- A series of wildfires broke out in Hawaii beginning on August 8. With mass amounts of damage, the wildfire damage cost in total of $5.5 billion dollars and caused over 100 deaths. The wildfires ended on August 11, leaving behind their mark.
SEPTEMBER- The month started off sadly with the death of famous singer and songwriter Jimmy Buffett as he passed at age 76 due to Merkel-cell carcinoma, a form of skin cancer. Buffett battled cancer for four years before his passing, but his family says he passed peacefully.
OCTOBER- The death of Matthew Perry shocked many. He was found dead in his California home on October 28. He is most recognized for his role in the show Friends as the popular character Chandler Bing.
NOVEMBER – The Texas Rangers became champions after defeating the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Rangers beat the Diamondbacks in three straight games to win the World Series. This win was big for the Texas Rangers as it was their first World Series win in franchise history.
DECEMBER- Time Magazine released their 2023 Person of the Year: Taylor Swift. This marks the first musician in 100 years to hold this honor. Additionally, on December 13, the extended version of Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour was released for fans to rent.
