Georgetown University was created by Archbishop John Carroll for the purpose of “securing the future of American Catholicism through education,” according to their website.
In 1789, John Carroll acquired the deed for land overlooking the Potomac River outside of Georgetown in Washington, D.C., and thought it would be the perfect place for a school: Georgetown University.

Applying:
Georgetown offers deferred admissions, early decision (due November 1), and regular applications (due January 10) which require a $60 fee. The school accepts either SAT or ACT, but when examining the SAT, the admissions committee only looks at critical reading and math, not writing.
Georgetown requires applicants to have had four years of English, two years of social studies and math, and one year of natural science. For those planning to major in math, science, nursing, or business, Georgetown requires an additional two years of math and science.
Georgetown offers tours after its information sessions but requires prior reservations. Together, the tour and information session is two hours.

Georgetown has four undergraduate schools: Georgetown College (liberal arts), Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service (international affairs, dealing with 70 countries and 50 states), McDonough School of Business (business school), and School of Nursing and Health Services (nursing).
Majors offered at Georgetown are biomedical and health sciences, business and economics, international studies, regional studies, ethnic studies, history and classical studies, languages and linguistics, literature and cultural studies, political science, multi-interdisciplinary studies, science, mathematics, technology, social sciences, theology, philosophy, religious studies, and performing arts.
