Religion teacher Katie Wood woke up on St. Patrick’s Day to hear a bag pipe being played. It wasn’t her alarm clock, but an annual tradition at Stonehill College in Massachusetts. Students hear the bag pipe early in the morning and jump up from whatever they are doing to get in line and follow the player around campus. By attending Stonehill, this is just one of the great experiences you could have.

What it Offers:
Stonehill is in the NCAA Division II for athletics. They have 20 varsity teams, eight intercollegiate teams, and 21 intramural sports. In addition to sports, Stonehill has 65 clubs, organizations, and groups. They also have a Fun Fund, which has people write in and offers money if you have an idea for something they deem “fun” enough.
“I did do a HOPE trip. It was a group that went together to Tennessee to rebuild this woman’s trailer than burnt down,” said Wood.
Majors Stonehill offers include: American studies, biochemistry, biology, business, chemistry, cinema studies, communications, computer science, economics, education, English, environmental studies, foreign languages, gender studies, health care, history, interdisciplinary studies, mathematics, Middle Eastern studies, military science, neuroscience, philosophy, physics and astronomy, political science, psychology, public administration, religious studies, sociology, criminology, and visual/performing arts.
“I created my own major. I worked with my counselor to help create a good major,” said Wood.
Stonehill’s study abroad program was voted thirteenth in the world. They offer full time internship opportunities in London, Paris, Dublin, Geneva, Madrid, Boston, NYC, and D.C.
However, Wood saw problems with the facilities at Stonehill. She said, “They [the dorms] were dirty and gross. We had co-ed dorms, so guys came onto our floor and messed it up.” Stonehill has single-sex and co-ed dorms which can fit 1,825 students.
In addition, according to Wood, the food at Stonehill “was good, but it was fattening, not a good variety,” said Wood.
