Super Bowl commercials do not disappoint

Although the main focus of Super Bowl Sunday is the big football game, millions of people around the world watch the game for its famous commercials. Super Bowl commercials came into light in 1967 when the Super Bowl first aired on national television. According to The Wall Street Journal, the tradition started in the 1980s with Apple’s “1984” commercial. Companies saw the Super Bowl as a way to get viewers to remember their ads and their products and to earn bragging rights over their rival companies.

In today’s era, companies pay an estimated five million dollars for thirty seconds of airtime. These include companies such as Google, Doritos, Hyundai, Jeep, Mountain Dew, and many others. This year the commercials were far from disappointing. There were comical ones, per usual, and also some sentimental ones. The top five commercials from this year according to USA Today were: Rocket Mortgage, Doritos, Google, Hyundai, and Jeep. Although there were other amusing ones, those were the favorites among the Ad Meter Ranking votes.
In Jeep’s commercial “Groundhog Day,” Bill Murray wakes up and decides that he wants to steal the famous groundhog and an orange Jeep truck. The two become very close over the days as they spend more time together.

Hyundai’s commercial “Smaht Pahk” features New England natives and their distinct accents essentially mocking the way New Englanders talk. It features David Ortiz, Chris Evans, John Krasinski and Rachel Dratch.

Google’s commercial “Loretta” was more of a sentimental one. It features an older man and the Google virtual assistant. He is trying to get Google to remember his wife who seemingly has passed away.

Rocket Mortgage’s commercial, “Comfortable,” features actor Jason Momoa and his odd way of coming home to get comfortable. He takes his muscles off of his body and changes his physical look.

Lastly, the Doritos commercial, “The Cool Ranch,” features internet sensation Lil Nas X and actor Sam Elliot having a western themed dance off to see who gets to have the bag of Cool Ranch Doritos, and it is to the song of “Old Town Road” by Lil Nas X. The commercial itself was very amusing.
