Renovations to the cafeteria center on expanding the area to fit students more comfortably.
“We wanted this [master plan] to not just be about bigger, but also about quality. I think the cafeteria is an exception to that. That is one area that just flat out has to be bigger,” said O’Hara.
However, he added, “I can’t give you an exact number of how many more students it will hold, but it will be larger.”
Board of Trustees Chairwoman Sister Mary Helen Beirne said, “There will be an expansion and development of a little patio [for outdoor dining] off the cafeteria.”
The area will have more of a “food court concept” with a combination of rectangular and round tables, according to O’Hara.
The goal of the revamping of the cafeteria includes “making it more aesthetically pleasing and more suited to student preferences for how they like to dine. Right now it’s like a mess hall, like Folsom prison or army barracks,” said O’Hara.
