Having recorded over 390 service hours, senior Elizabeth Tauber will represent JC at the Charlie Riley Community Service Awards Banquet next week.
Tauber was one of the 12 students from Harford County high schools nominated for the award. According to guidance counselor Carrie Siemsen, she was chosen for having the most service hours in the senior class.
According to Tauber, the majority of her service hours came from volunteering at John Archer on Saturday mornings and tutoring with the Students Serving Students group over the summer.
“We feel that [Tauber] is one of the top serving students in the senior class,” Siemsen said.
Tauber won $1,000 for being nominated, and she could win up to $1500 more if she is chosen as the top candidate.
“I am kind of surprised because I didn’t know they gave away awards for community service. I am also pretty excited because I have never gotten an award like this,” Tauber said.
The Charlie Riley Community Service Awards Banquet will take place on Wednesday, November 10, at 6:30 p.m. at the Level Volunteer Fire Company Banquet Hall.
