On Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 12-13, JC’s National Art Honor Society will host a “Paint Out -Paint-In” event.
Professional artists will paint scenery around the campus and inside the Fine Arts Wing. JC art students will have the opportunity to learn from the artists.
“Hopefully, this will become an annual event,” NAHS moderator Bruno Baran said. Students and artists will be working outside the school, in the two art rooms, and in the gallery.
“We are dealing with some of the best painters on the East Coast, who will maybe demonstrate,” Baran said. NAHS members will be able to work alongside the various artists, working on anything from still paintings to landscapes.
“We’re hoping to have a really talented artist come in and demonstrate to the students of the NAHS, like Ken Backus or Valerie Crane,” Baran said.
Although this is more of an exhibition workshop rather than a contest, Baran hopes to start an annual art contest with the Alumni Association. The money put into this event would raise money for the Alumni Association.
“There has been no contact with JC from artists yet, but the school will probably not hear from anyone until after the holidays,” Baran said.
