Due to a lack of ticket sales, the Sadie Hawkins Black & White Formal has been postponed to Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011.
The tickets purchased for the dance that was to take place on Friday, Dec. 10 will remain valid for the new date.
“We needed to take into consideration the other dance expenses… with only 50 or so tickets sold by [Wednesday, Dec. 8], we had to postpone it,” senior class moderator Larry Hensley said.
Senior class Member-at-Large Elisabeth Johnson added that there was “no time to plan [the formal]. We were too rushed.”
Senior class moderator Anne Baker explained that this “rush” was mostly due to the Variety Show’s consuming all of the senior class moderators’ and officers’ time for the month of November. The formal was put on the backburner until after Thanksgiving break, giving students only two weeks’ notice of the event.
Johnson admitted that she and senior class president Tyler Boyd and vice president Andrew Russell did not market the event well also because it was originally scheduled for Dec. 17, not Dec. 10.
“No one told the three [senior class officers] about the new date; we found out through the daily bulletin,” Johnson said, so the poor marketing “wasn’t really our fault.”
Only one announcement was made by the officers. The only other promotion for the dance was through Spirit Club posters, the daily bulletin and a Facebook event.
For the rescheduled formal, Hensley hopes to have 150 or more tickets sold before Wednesday, Feb. 9. If tickets sales do not reach or exceed this expectation, the Sadie Hawkins dance may be postponed for a second time or canceled altogether.
Last year’s Sadie Hawkins dance was rescheduled and eventually cancelled due to snow.
Money raised from the dance will offset ticket prices for the Senior Prom, scheduled for Saturday, Apr. 30, 2011.
