With hopes to reel in the big ones, the newly formed Fishing Club is setting sail at JC.
After the Sailing Club was formed last year, two students thought it would be a good idea to combine their love for sailing with their love for fishing. Senior Nathan Barringer and junior Kevin Davies “started the club because we very much like to fish, and we believed John Carroll needed some sort of outdoor club,” Barringer said.
As of right now, the fishing club has found some tangles in their line. The moderator of the club was science teacher William Forster, but now there is a need for a new moderator, since Forster has retired. According to Barringer, guidance counselor Larry Hensley is the first choice for the new moderator.
“I’m very excited to be a part of [the Fishing Club], and I am looking forward to finding out the details,” Hensley said.
In its early stages, the club is still a recreational activity, but with time Barringer hopes that it will grow to have a more competitive nature. “The goal overall is to be able to fish as a club or team out on the bay and fish tournaments together,” Barringer said.
