All Saints’ Day mass

On Tuesday, students attended a mass commemorating All Saints’ Day. All Saints’ Day is a Catholic Holy Day of Obligation, and is celebrated annually on Nov. 1. The day is dedicated to all those who have died and gone to Heaven, not just the saints recognized by the Catholic Church. Father Josh Laws presided over the mass, which took place during the assembly mod on the H day.

Fall musical preview

On Thursday’s D day, students came into school at regular time in order to attend the preview of the fall musical, “Mary Poppins.” Students saw a preview of numbers such as “Step in Time” and “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.” Although the musical preview took away students’ ability to come in 30 minutes late, many students enjoyed the preview. “I really enjoyed the play preview, it made me want to go and see the play. I really liked the tap dancing number and the ‘Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious’ number made me want to sing,” junior Jessica Bauer said.

Mary Poppins opening

The 2016 fall musical,”Mary Poppins,” opened Friday evening. Junior Ella Wilson played the lead role of Mary Poppins and sophomore Josh Robinson played the leading male role of Bert. Showtimes were Friday at 7 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., and Sunday at 2 p.m.. Throughout the week, middle and elementary schools visited JC to attend matinees of the show.

Although there were technical difficulties during the matinee performances, by opening night all the hard work paid off. “The hard work definitely paid off. I think the whole cast felt a sense of accomplishment,” junior Chris Cerra, who played Mr. Von Hussler, said.

The spring show is “Shrek: the Musical,” and will debut in March 2017.

First junior retreat

Some juniors participated in the first junior retreat from Sunday, Oct. 30, to Monday, Oct. 31. Students stayed overnight at the Monsignor O’Dwyer Retreat house and returned to school at 3:30 p.m. Monday afternoon. The retreat was led by the campus ministers and a handful of senior students, and it was a bonding experience for the juniors on the retreat.
