With the freshman retreat at the Baltimore Basilica and junior retreats already occurring at the Msgr. O’Dwyer Retreat House in Sparks, Maryland, sophomores are now experiencing some adjustments to this year’s Mt. Zion Church retreat.
In the past, sophomores have retreated to Mt. Zion and Harford Family House, continuously helping adults with special needs at Mt. Zion and contributing to cleaning at Harford Family House.
Service Learning Coordinator Kate Webb explained, “For sophomore retreats, the main change is that the group all spends the day at Mt. Zion together, instead of being split between Mt. Zion and Harford Family House.”
Ms. Webb added, “Sophomores travel with their religion section to Mt. Zion and work with the participants of their special needs ministry, Beyond Capernaum.”
Through these retreats, students can contribute and practice the Catholic Faith through acts of service and providing to their community.
Sophomore Ella Brennan said, “I enjoyed my retreat because I liked meeting new people. My favorite part was getting to color with them and having conversations that helped people in my community.”
Junior Claire Colon said, “I really liked the retreat. The activities were fun, and it was nice being able to talk with everyone about certain topics.”
Likewise, seniors will be separated into three groups for overnight retreats at Sandy Cove Ministries in Northeast, Maryland to receive knowledge from God, their peers, and ministry and reflect on their life journey.
Junior retreats have received no new updates or adjustments, and they will occur through December.
Sophomore retreats will continue from November through January, and seniors will attend their retreat in February.
