Senior Brady Larkin was recently awarded the High School Constitution Day Contest Winner scholarship through the Harford County Republican Women (HCRW).
Brady created a documentary for the contest that he thought would impact his community and the county government.
The documentary reflected on the Constitution and the privileges that impact Americans on a daily basis. He chose the topics of sovereignty and republicanism for the documentary because he is currently in AP Government where these topics are mentioned.
“Many principles regarding these topics resonated with me and are intertwined with many things I experience in my own life. Overall, I selected these ideas to delve deeper into the background, history, and importance of these principles and how they impact our inherent rights as citizens,” Brady said.
Brady’s sister had participated in the HCRW Council Constitution Day scholarship in the past, so he had advice on “how to make my documentary as good as it could have been.”
Brady has also been involved with public speaking and public service announcements since elementary school. He also has a love for history. Because of this, he thought he had a great shot at winning the award.
Brady felt great because, on top of the scholarship and certificate from the council, County Executive Bob Cassilly awarded him a city county citation and county government coin medallion.
“I was thrilled to connect with the council, Bob Cassilly, and our county government.”
The scholarship means a lot to him because he was able to be recognized by the County Executive for his love of the Constitution and the freedoms in this country.
He recommends other students to check out the HCRW website and apply for the scholarship “since it not only gives you great things for your resume but it also prepares you for college in terms of creative thinking skills, communication skills, and videography skills.”
The scholarship is for seniors who create a video or write an essay on two topics from the Constitution.
Brady will be attending Grove City College and plans to pursue political science and communications. “Having this scholarship will help me pursue my career interests in college and beyond while connecting me with our county government even more,” he commented.
Currently, he is looking forward to submitting a video to Constituting America’s National We the Future Contest for another scholarship and a chance to attend their national trip to further his interests in government, politics, and communication.
