One week after receiving their decision letters, Future Patriots spent an evening learning more about John Carroll’s academics and sports.
This year, the Welcome Reception took place on February 23, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
In the Upper Gym, each fall, winter, and spring sport had a table set up. Coaches and players were also in attendance to speak with the students and parents.
Future Patriot Teagan Everett, daughter of Director of Creative Services Karen Everett, said, “I learned what the girls varsity lacrosse schedule is for this year, which is helpful because now I know what teams they play and when. I’m excited to watch their games this season.”
In the cafeteria, all academic departments, some special programs such as AP Capstone and St. Joseph’s, and a few extracurriculars including the Student Government Association had representatives and tables. Several teachers and student volunteers helped as well.
Additionally, a photo booth was set up in the U-Hallway. Future Patriot Nora DeMennato, daughter of Social Studies Teacher Gretta DeMennato, said, “I really loved being able to see some of my friends who were accepted, and I liked the photo opportunities.”
The event was led by Director of Admissions Edward Maynard and Associate Director of Admissions Caroline Adolph.
The Welcome Reception was “an opportunity for families who are on the fence or are 100 percent convinced they want to come to John Carroll to come and ask any final questions,” explained Mr. Maynard.
Future Patriot Andrew Hall, son of English Teacher Allison Hall, said, “It was nice to be at the school and know I would officially be going there next year.”
Mrs. Adolph also commented that the reception was a time to celebrate with family and friends.
“My favorite part of the Welcome Reception was seeing all of my future classmates and teachers. It made me feel welcome and more calm about making the transition from middle to high school,” said Future Patriot Paige Everett, daughter of Mrs. Everett.
