Patriots Week, a week full of fun activities that bring the John Carroll community together, is quickly approaching.
This year’s Patriots Week will begin on April 15 and will run through April 19, with the annual Patriots Day on April 16. Each day of the week will have a theme and activity to go with it.
Director of Parent and Alumni Engagement Rachel DeWeese reviewed the major themes of each day of the week.
“Monday is Patriots Week Kick-off; Tuesday is Patriots Day; Wednesday is Wellness Wednesday; Thursday is the Block Party, and Friday is the Patriots Week Finale.”
On Monday, students will be able to pick up their Patriots Week t-shirts at school arrival and dismissal. They will also be introduced to a service project. There will also be a varsity baseball game at home against Calvert Hall.
On Tuesday, Patriots Day, will begin with JC spirit as students arrive to school. During lunch mods, there will be a cookout in the courtyard, and yard games will be set up in the Upper Gym. Badminton, boys tennis, boys lacrosse, and softball will all be hosting home games.
“I really like the cookout because we all get to eat outside together while playing games and listening to music,” said senior Brooke Hoskins.
“I like the cookout because it’s nice to go outside and pick up food and enjoy the surroundings,” commented junior Bethel Wondimu.
Just like last year, JC parents, 21 and older alumni, and faculty and staff are all able to come together at Das Bierhalle for Patriots Night Out on Patriots Day.
Mrs. DeWeese said, “There are many new things for this year’s Patriots Week, such as the Nutrition and Cooking assembly and the Advancement Club’s mini-golf tournament.”
The Nutrition and Cooking assembly will take place on Wellness Wednesday. This day will also allow students to dress down and wear their Patriots Week t-shirts. Upper Chesapeake Link Booths will be set up in the U Hallway. To end the day, JV baseball will host a game against Calvert Hall.
As Patriots Week begins to come to a close, Thursday there will be an extended advisory for block parties. Varsity softball, badminton, and boys JV lacrosse will all be hosting home games.
“My favorite thing about Patriots Week are the block parties because I get to see other friends that I don’t normally get to see until lunch,” said junior Alannah Benson.
On Friday, the final day of Patriots Week, there will be a Patriots Week Mass and Alumni Awards ceremony.
The Advancement Club will host its first mini-golf tournament in the Lower Gym. Later that day, there will be a music department concert. Varsity softball and varsity baseball will be hosting games on this day with a food truck near the baseball field.
