The beginning of the Lenten season meant the return of Lenten small groups. This year the Lenten season for small groups began February 14 and will end today. During these 40 days, groups of students gathered and formed groups that continued to meet once a week either during lunch or after school.
There were a total of 12 groups participating this year, and each had a teacher or administrator moderator. This was the second year John Carroll has done this.
Each group received a packet and completed it each week. At the beginning of each meeting, they would start with an opening prayer. Then each week was focused on a different scripture reading with four reflection questions. There was also a meditation they would read and discuss. They finished the sessions with a closing prayer and shared their intentions for the week to add to the prayer.
Peer Minister Kelley Hurdle said, “Being in Peer Ministry and participating in leading a Lenten Small Group is so special because I wanted to have more time to bond with God and grow my faith but also share this time with my friends and experience it with them in this special season of Lent.”
Peer Minister Taylor Pate was able to be part of a small group. “I decided to participate to be closer to God and to bond with my classmates. It feels very nice to be a part of a group. Everyone is welcoming, and it feels good to grow closer with my classmates, opening up about different life events.”
