The Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the Campus Ministry Office initiated 1,964 acts of kindness for the JC community.
In honor of the March Mission Initiative, Patriots Acts of Kindness, students and faculty were asked to submit one or multiple acts of kindness that they saw or experienced throughout this month.
Since John Carroll opened in 1964, the goal was to reach 1,964 acts.
Associate Campus Minister & Service Coordinator Kate Webb explained, “Mrs. D and FCA came up with the idea to promote Random Acts of Kindness in our community during the month of March and asked to partner with the Campus Ministry Office to make that happen.”
FCA Moderator Gretta DeMennato and Director of Mission & Ministry Deacon Kenneth Goedeke also contributed to planning this event.
A school mass email was sent out on March 4 for everyone to participate. Kind responses were anonymously submitted and highlighted on social media platforms, and they were read during morning prayer and pledge announcements.
Some acts included opening and holding doors for others, buying lunch for friends, and paying for the people behind them in drive-thrus.
Ms. Webb commented, “We don’t always know what the people around us are going through in their lives, and sometimes a small act of kindness can make a big difference.”
She added, “During Lent, we focus on what we are giving up or sacrificing, but Deacon Goedeke and I also wanted to encourage our community to add something as well and focus on little ways we can serve each other each day.”
In honor of the Lenten season, the initiative is to help “reconnect our relationship with Our Father, through alms-giving or acts of charity or kindness,” added Deacon Goedeke.
