Vancouver, Canada – The 2010 American Olympian Lindsey Vonn is using cheese to heal her injured shin. Vonn is using an Austrian cheese, known as topfen, with the hopes of reducing inflammation on her shin. Director of Sports Medicine at an Indiana hospital Ralph Reiff believes that while it may not be scientifically proven, the remedy has a positive mental effect on athletes. The cheese is made from cows’ milk and resembles yogurt in texture.

Haverstraw, New York – A 14-year-old high school freshman was given a one day suspension after he was seen wearing rosary beads on his way out of school. Jason Laguna is Catholic and served as an altar boy. He sometimes wears his rosary beads to school under his clothes. The suspension was handed down after Laguna pulled the beads out from under his shirt while leaving school. Laguna’s mother complained about the incident and was later told that the school has an unwritten policy about beads because they can be used to display gang affiliation. The district superintendant has put the suspension on hold while the matter is being investigated.

San Francisco, California – A proposed $50 million net system set to be built under the Golden Gate Bridge to offset suicide attempts has gained further support. The final environmental report for the project was approved by a California transportation board, and a $5 million engineering study can now be launched. However, it still unknown how the government-backed project will be funded.
