Like many other underclassmen, I look forward to the Senior Variety Show every year. I go into the show with an open mind and low expectations, only because the last thing I want is to be disappointed after spending the very low price of ten dollars on a ticket. To be honest, when I found out about the price of the tickets I was immediately put off. But the show was more entertaining than the cheap tickets indicated.
Some of the skits could have been cut shorter, and there were some jokes that I just didn’t get, including the one titled “Literary Tea.” I did enjoy the senior class’ rendition of a few Saturday Night Live skits, including “Calculator for Christmas” and “Surprise Party.” Their frequent jabs at the faculty and the previous graduating class during skits like the faculty dance contest and the Saturday Night Live inspired “Motivational Speaker” were also fantastic.
The reaction of the class of 2009 to the show was almost refreshing. In the past, the graduated classes have been obnoxious, but still remain mildly entertaining. Despite the almost continuous jokes about the ’09 kids, they were surprisingly polite.
Although a major reason I went to the Variety Show was to see the reaction of the class of 2009, but I was pleasantly surprised with the abundance of talent in the class of 2010. So for the first time in three years, I actually enjoyed the Senior Variety Show.
