The shortcomings of professional athletes never cease to be both funny and ironic. Golfer Tiger Woods made a lengthy apology on national television this past Friday for his despicable behavior.
Woods engaged in multiple sexual affairs with various women. Not only did Woods disgrace himself and his family, but he also disgraced his fans and sponsors.
At first, I honestly thought Woods’ apology was sincere. He looked directly at the camera and had a somber look on his face. Woods said, “Simply and directly, I am deeply sorry for my irresponsible and selfish behavior [that] I engaged in.”
After watching the video, I came to my senses and realized that Woods isn’t sorry for what he did. No, he is sorry for getting caught. Woods claimed to be a “personal disappointment to his friends.”
To your friends? What about your wife? Woods claims that a real apology to his wife will come from his behavior over time. How about an “Elin, I am so sorry?” But why would someone who’s not really sorry apologize to his wife, whom he loves so much, right?
I’m so glad that Elin never stooped to Woods’ level. She had allegedly hit and attacked Woods when she found out about his affairs. Tiger claims otherwise. “There has never been an episode of domestic violence in our marriage, ever,” said Woods.
Tiger Woods’ behavior was totally irresponsible, hurtful, and offensive to not only his friends and family, but to the media and all of the sponsors he had. He not only ruined his image, but the images of his official sponsors.
Since Woods can’t sincerely apologize for what he’s done, I will. To EA Sports, Gillette, Golf Digest, NetJets, Nike Golf, TAG Heuer, Tatweer, TLC Laser Eye Centers, Upper Deck, and PGA Tour, I am truly sorry for the reputation this selfish person has given you.
