America is the most obese country in the world, and Thanksgiving is just a day to feed this sick statistic.
Thanksgiving is a day where thousands of families get together and gorge themselves with numerous different foods. The most popular food for most families is turkey, which is healthy, but it’s not good enough until you add gravy. Then some people fry their turkeys, just adding even more calories.
Everyone knows that feeling that you get after a huge Thanksgiving meal. Stuffed, uncomfortable and tired. What about vegetarians? Thanksgiving can’t be that special for people that don’t eat meat.
Mashed potatoes, stuffing, pumpkin pie, green bean casserole, corn pudding, and cranberry sauce. These are just a few of the other foods that people stuff themselves with. The problem is it all looks so appetizing when it’s hot and it’s easy to take too much.
After half the plate is gone, you realize you took way too much and you don’t really want the rest. But you eat it anyway, leading to that horrible, uncomfortable feeling of being stuffed.
Not only is this holiday known for the problem of overeating, it is also notorious for the horrendous traveling experience. Anyone who has gone to visit family in a different state knows how terrible the traffic can be. Even flights are difficult to book and are extremely expensive.
The worst thing of all about this holiday is that the true meaning has been lost. Thanksgiving is a day to be thankful for all the good things in life. In reality, people should be thankful every day.
For most people, Thanksgiving is a reason to bring the whole family together. It is sad to think that families are only united on these kinds of holidays. People shouldn’t need an entire day devoted to eating to be thankful.
