God. Has any other three letter word caused so much controversy?
It seems like everywhere you turn these days, somebody is complaining that the word “God” should not be involved at all in the United States. One of the biggest conflicts is the phrase “under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance.
I never really understood what the big deal is. The US was built with this simple phrase. It doesn’t necessarily endorse Catholicism or any specific religion.
What would be a good solution? “One nation under nobody?” Well, that might offend Canadians. How about one nation under Canada, above Mexico? Or would that offend Mexico because we’re saying we’re above them? It’s impossible to please everybody.
If we took out “God,” we would have songs like “Someone bless America.” No matter what you think, the idea of a higher being has been involved with the creation of the US, and that is not going to change.
The same can be said for having “In God We Trust” on the back of currency. What are we supposed to put on the back of the money to replace it? Should we put “in Gates we trust,” since Bill Gates controls most of the money?
Where is it going to end when it comes to people being offended about religion? Are we going to have to take Abraham Lincoln’s memorial off the five dollar bill because it looks like an ancient Greek temple built for the gods? Or should we destroy the Pentagon because it is similar to a pentagram which is associated with the devil?
To be honest, whenever I look at the one dollar bill, “In God We Trust” never jumps out at me. The thing that always did was that creepy looking one-eyed pyramid.
I did some research and found out that many people think that the pyramid is actually a sign for a satanic cult called the Illuminati. Why doesn’t anybody complain about that? I’m not trying to start any conspiracy theories, but I do think that’s a little worse than the phrase, “In God We Trust.”
People really shouldn’t get offended because before you know it, we are not going to be able to have anything on the back of our currency. Instead of having anything on the back of our money we will have something stupid like the Monopoly man with his pockets hanging out along with the phrase “Trust No One” above him. Or would that be considered worshiping the Monopoly man?
